Cardinal Merry del Val

One of the joys of Ash Wednesday is re-opening the Lenten volume of the breviary and re-discovering holy cards that one had forgotten about. I don't even recall where and when I found the above, but it was issued by the cause for the beatification of Cardinal Merry del Val (his full name being: Rafael María José Pedro Francisco Borja Domingo Gerardo de la Santísma Trinidad Merry del Val y Zulueta ) but since it has the Litany of Humility inside, it was a nice rediscovery.

I know precisely what you mean. I like it when it's time to change volumes for just that reason. :)

(tip: folks, if you want me to pray for something in perpetuity, put it on a little card and slip it in my breviary!)

Any further thoughts on that thing we were discussing the other day? I was agonising over which volume to pick up today...spoilt for choice!

I bought a (barely) used copy of the Socias Latin/English Roman Missal not long ago and had the joy of finding someone else's holy cards - it was really kind of fun.

I do love the litany of humility - I think that pride is one of the underrated 'sins of the modern world.' Everyone thinks the world is obsessed with sex; sometimes I wonder if pride is not more pervasive.

There is a cause for the beatification of Cardinal Merry del Val? That is great news, I have always been an admirer of his. Would you happen to know where to write to in order to get a holy card or two? Probably the vicariatus Urbis?

Gregor,

The address on the (seemingly quite old) holy card for the Postulator is:
Via della Cava Aurelia,145
00165 ROMA
Italy.

I have no idea if the postulator is still based there, but it's probably worthwhile writing there, marking the outside of the envelope very clearly that it's for the attention of the Causa per la Beatificazione di Rafael Merry del Val.

Thanks for posting the address, Zadok.

I'm quite attached to Cardinal Merry Del Val, so I'll probably draft something up before the end of Lent.
